ANAHEIM, Calif. — Jake Paul took another significant step toward legitimacy in the boxing world on Saturday night, earning a dominant unanimous decision over former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a 10-round cruiserweight bout at the Honda Center, live on DAZN pay-per-view.
Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), who has been on a redemption run since dropping a close decision to Tommy Fury in 2023, showcased poise, power, and patience in perhaps the most complete performance of his young career. The judges scored the bout 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93 — all in favor of the YouTuber-turned-contender.
“I knew I had to be sharp tonight,” Paul said post-fight. “Beating a former world champion like Chavez shows I’m serious about becoming one myself.”
This marks Paul’s sixth consecutive win, including a surprising unanimous decision over former heavyweight legend Mike Tyson last November. With Paul’s convincing victory, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman hinted earlier in the week that a place in the WBC’s 200-pound rankings could soon be his. “The committee has been following Jake Paul’s career,” Sulaiman told ESPN. “If he defeats Chavez and looks good doing it, there’s a very strong chance he’ll be ranked.”
